We went back to our mission location in October of 2019. God was ever-present and faithful! To be conservative, we saw an average of 200+ people a day, for two weeks! Our growth was near more than we could handle, but God stood at our side and provided a way. Now more than ever I realize that I will need assistance to complete the construction of our much needed facility in order to reach our growing needs. I was filled with compassion for each story and struggle.
In one case, a mother, seeking help for her 6 month old, came to us. In all my years of experience, this case made me nervous for the outcome, but again God is faithful. The woman told us her infant was discharged due to inability to pay and they were directed to a distant state hospital. They had no means of transportation, so they brought the child to us. We did our best to control the infant's high fever and insisted they return to the hospital. She could not reach her husband as he worked as a motorbike serviceman. They had no hope. Usually I do not carry money on me, but found some at the bottom of my bag. I gave it to her for transportation to the hospital. That night, the rain nearly prevented us from checking on the child, at the hospital, but we made it. Thanks to the little care we provided, the infant's temperature was maintained long enough to reach the hospital safely. The money I contributed was also enough to cover the infant's care. I cannot imagine the outcome had we not been present to not only provide medication, but to also pay for the hospital care.
I understand that Nigeria's reputation has greatly limited other countries much needed involvement. But the country of Nigeria is in dire need.
Unfortunately, previous wrongdoings have painted Nigerians as scam artists, unworthy of help. I remain vigilant in the cause of bringing routine care to these people. For now, the market is only geared towards those who can pay high costs for care. Meanwhile, the vast majority go without prenatal, diabetic, and just about every type of medical care needed. It is heartbreaking to see my people suffer. We were forced, though willing, to become a sort of triage while serving this mission trip. Many brought incredibly ill persons seeking help, some even lying on the ground waiting for their turn in line. We did our best to stabilize and instruct those beyond our care to go to the hospital.
I was blessed with the opportunity to go again this year, but as word spreads of my involvement I know I need help. I am ready to earnestly seek financial assistance from my community. As you read this post please be praying about how God can use you to help this worthy cause. God is able!
